چکیده

In this paper, we propose, develop, and implement an exact method to analyze the effect of discontinuities in open planar chirowaveguides. The method combines the buildingblock approach of multimode network theory with a rigorous mode-matching procedure. Both the scattering of discrete spectra surface-wave modes and the continuous spectra radiation and evanescent modes are discussed in this paper. The introduction of equivalent transmission-line networks brings new physical insight into the overall behavior of the discontinuities. Features such as symmetrical properties of the structure are also investigated. Based on the analysis, numerical results are displayed to demonstrate the usefulness of this approach and to discuss mode conversion and radiation characteristics of discontinuities.

Sensitivity of Chirowaveguides to Circular Birefringence by First Order Perturbation Theory

Planar waveguides with an isotropic chiral core, called chirowaveguides, support the propagation of elliptically polarized modes, making them natural candidates for chiral sensing. We investigate the potential of chirowaveguides as optical sensors responding to changes in the circular birefringence of a medium covering the waveguide. Using first order approximations, we derive expressions for t...

Continuously Varying Coupled Transmission Lines Applied to Design Band - Pass Filters

This paper presents a technique to analyze and optimize Continuously Varying Transmission Lines (CVTL’s), used to design microwave band-pass filters in planar technology. For millimeters waves, radiation losses can increase quickly, especially for sharp discontinuities in planar circuits. In this approach, rather than taking account of this effect in a full-wave analysis, we generate structures...

A Full-Wave Modal Analysis of Arbitrarily Shaped Waveguide Discontinuities Using the Finite Plane-Wave Series Expansion

A full-wave electromagnetic model for analyzing waveguide discontinuities of arbitrarily shaped piecewise planar boundaries is presented. The analysis is facilitated by using the finite plane-wave series expansion of circular cylindrical modal functions. Since electromagnetic fields on each of the planar boundary surfaces of the inhomogeneous region are expressed in terms of plane-wave modal fu...
